Biography

IMG_0143I’ve always been inspired to build things.  This “Feast Dish” is something I worked on in a carving group I’ve met with for a few years.

This carved bowl is inspired by NW native art.  It is made from big leaf maple and abalone inlay and depicts the majestic Pacific Halibut.

I moved to bellingham in 1985 with my parents from Watertown South Dakota.  I was blown away by the beauty and scale of the landscape of Whatcom County.  I graduated from Sehome High School then from Pacific Lutheran University with a degree in Biology.  Just before graduation I over heard a classmate talking about going back to Alaska to fish with her family for salmon.  I was delighted at my chance to join them.  I fished for eight summers in total from Kodiak to Ketchikan.

In 2000 I started my business by remodeling a friend’s kitchen.  I  took it from “shag carpet and interior wall shingles” to modern and beautiful.  You know a building is in need of remodeling when just after the stage of demolition it looks better that ever.  Some times it’s as simple as that.  Other times I add a measure of creative inspiration to an existing need to adapt resulting in a space that beautifully blends form and function.

Let me know if you want help with your project.  Thanks!  Jim.
